THERMOCANAPA - THERMAL PLASTER MADE OF HEMP, CORK AND LIME
Pre-mixed thermal plaster for exteriors and interiors based on Hemp, Cork and natural hydraulic lime, for the thermal insulation of old and new buildings.
THERMOCANAPA - Hemp and cork thermal plaster is composed of hemp hemp grown in Piedmont, granulated cork (obtained from the separate collection of cork) and natural hydraulic lime: components that provide high thermo-acoustic insulation power, breathability and capacity for thermo-hygrometric regulation of environments.
7 REASONS FOR CHOOSING A THERMAL PLASTER IN HEMP CORK AND LIME
- It guarantees wellbeing in the environment because Thermocanapa is a healthy, breathable and highly insulating plaster.
- It represents a clear example of circular economy, made with local, recycled and renewable raw materials, without the consumption of finite resources.
- Highly bio-ecological due to the excellent characteristics of hemp and cork that complement each other in a product that is both simple and innovative.
- High insulation value, which makes Thermocanapa a valid alternative to thermal insulation made with panels.
- It can be applied both externally and internally, replacing old plaster without increasing the volume.
- Easy to apply: Thermocanapa is a premixed plaster that can be applied by hand or with a plastering machine.
- Suitable in all situations, for the efficiency upgrading of recent constructions or in historical centres for its natural lime-based formulation.

MIXING AND LAYING
THERMOCANAPA - Thermal plaster of hemp and cork can be applied on new walls as on old walls after removal of the old plaster.
The wall must be rough and compact, solid and dust-free. If the substrate is poorly rough and absorbent, apply anti-salt undercoat as an adhesion promoter beforehand.
APPLICATION OF THE THERMAL PLASTER BY HAND
Mix the contents with about 13 LT of clean water until a homogeneous and lump-free mixture is obtained. Mix the mixture in a concrete mixer for about 3 minutes.
The mixed mortar must be used within a maximum of 90 minutes.
MACHINE APPLICATION OF THE THERMAL PLASTER
For applications with a continuous plastering machine, use a wide-bladed mixer, normal lung and 25 mm diameter pipe. For applications with a higher flow rate, use a D81.5 type lung with a 35 mm diameter pipe and 25 mm nozzle.
The product should be applied in 2cm passes at a time, approximately 48 hours apart. To improve the overall adhesion and stability of the thermal plaster, it is advisable to insert a 10x10 mm mesh net at the level of the second pass.
Use a metal straightedge and trowel to level the applied product.
SURFACE FINISHING
Once cured, or in any case never before 10 days from the execution of the plaster, apply the finishing product to completely cover the thermal plaster; apply a constant thickness of no less than 3 mm and bury a crack-stopping net with a 4x4 mm mesh in the skim coat, taking care to overlap the strips by at least 10 cm. Finally, apply a second coat of finish to even out the surface.
For the decorative finish, we recommend breathable mineral coatings such as Bioart-rasatura Fine, or Bioart-rasatura Media (also coloured with natural earths).
WARNINGS
Do not apply the hemp and cork plaster at temperatures below +5°.
The substrates must be moistened before application to prevent the water of the mixture from being absorbed too quickly by the substrate itself, in particular in the presence of high temperatures and a windy weather it must be moistened more.
Do not apply under direct sunlight or in strong winds.
Some answers to frequently asked questions about thermal plaster:
How insulating is Thermocan plaster compared to conventional plaster? Thermocanapa plaster has a Lambda value of 0.068 W/mK which places it among the best thermal plasters (it insulates 15 times more than a traditional plaster).
Can thermal plaster replace thermal insulation? It is an excellent alternative to overcoat, especially in the case of buildings in historic town centres that are subject to restrictions by the superintendence, or where it is necessary not to have detachments on the facade with respect to the other parts of the building. In interiors, it involves little increase in thickness compared to traditional plaster, allowing doors, windows, radiators, switches and sockets to remain in place. In cases where energy requalification requirements call for more insulation, a greater thickness will suffice.
How much heating savings per year? The amount of savings is always significant, but it is conditioned by many factors: the thickness of the thermal plaster applied, the dispersions still present in other parts of the housing envelope such as the floor and roof frames.
Is it true that if I insulate the house too much, then I have to open the windows often because of humidity? By choosing bio-building materials such as Thermocanapa, internal humidity is positively regulated by the healthy, macroporous and breathable layer of hemp, cork and lime plaster.
If, on the other hand, the insulating material does not breathe, as is the case with classic polystyrene panels, an unhealthy and humid environment is created in the home, which requires frequent ventilation or expensive mechanical ventilation systems.
In other words, although for the purposes of calculating dispersion, synthetic materials seem to be successful, in reality they worsen the quality of indoor air and require additional costs to solve the problems caused.
